Baumgartner would also become the first human to break the sound barrier without the aid of a machine, as he is expected to fall faster than 690 miles per hour during the 10-minute jump, or faster than the speed of sound at that altitude.Baumgartner, 42, will wear a specially designed space suit built to withstand a sonic boom and the extreme conditions at the edge of space: atmospheric pressure so low it would vaporize a person's blood instantly, and temperatures of minus 70° Celsius.Felix Baumgartner's jump was originally schedule for Oct. 8 but has been postponed because the balloon can only take off in near-perfect weather conditions.
