Let's start some topics on 3D video editing software.
I use both Sony Vegas Movie Studio version 12 and Magix Movie Edit Pro MX Plus (version 18). I'll add a separate topic for MEP. There are other solutions including PowerDirector and also freeware solutions too.
Vegas Movie Studio 12 (I'll abbreviate that as VMS) has worked very well for me, with zero crashes. Prior versions were not as good but 12 has been very stable. I often use it for 3D editing because it has been so stable.
However, it lacks two important features. One is a way to automatically synchronize two video streams together into a 3D pair. What Sony has you do is put the left and right tracks on the timeline, then view the audio waveforms and use that to do track alignment. That works, but it would be nice to have an auto alignment feature that is found in some other editing tools.
The second problem is that once you pair your 3D clips, you cannot later re-align the tracks if you discover you are off by a frame or two. You pretty much have to start over, grab the originals, and then go through the alignment again. I saw an online reference where someone from Sony seemed to acknowledge that is a problem, and presumably they will address it in a future version.
The way to work around the 2nd problem, of course, is to make sure you are very precise in your initial alignment procedure.
