Olympus will be delivering a firmware upgrade to the Olympus E-M1 camera and one of the features is said to be a "keystone" correction feature. Keystoning refers to the image distortion that occurs when the "Film plane" (or image sensor plane) is not perpendicular to the subject. This is noticeable when, for example, you try to take a photo of a tall building in front of you.
Keystoning also occurs if you shoot 3D stereoscopic imaging with two cameras and use "toe in" to point each camera slightly inwards. (There are reasons you might want to do this and reasons why you might not want to do this - this post is not intended to get involved in that debate).
Sony Vegas and Sony Movie Studio have a feature to correct for the keystoning distortion if you shoot 3D video this way.
Will the E-M1 firmware update provides a way to correct for 3D stereoscopic keystoning when two cameras are pointed slightly inwards? We do not yet know but it is an intriguing possibility if this correction could be done in camera.
