The file doesn't have to be in a subfolder named "100NIN03"? (Checking that right now.)
Avidemux works on the Mac? Awesome. I always find a good reason to use that program!

My New Nintendo 3DS XL does indeed require a folder named "100NIN03" for videos and photos. In fact, it will create that folder when you shoot with the 3DS. If you don't leave something (anything, I assume) in that folder, the 3DS keeps deleting it, and you have to create it again, which is a hassle.
So (on my 3DS, anyway), the videos and photos go into a that 100NIN03 folder, which is inside the DCIM folder.
