YUVsoft: Creating Clean Plates Is Easier than Ever [2D to 3D]

Today, large parallax values are a must-have for high-quality 2D-to-stereo-3D conversion, thus requiring good background restoration in occlusion zones. Creating quality clean plates is one of the most difficult tasks in the conversion process, consuming lots of time, money and effort.
Existing automation tools for background restoration are seldom specialized for stereo conversion. Addressing these needs, YUVsoft now offers an improved version of its 2D to 3D Suite with the powerful Background Reconstruction (BGR) tool. BGR enables quality temporal restoration of backgrounds for moving foreground objects, using information from other frames in the sequence. In other words, the tool generates the actual background as it appears in neighboring frames.
In the following video, Steve Wright presents a tutorial on BGR usage and its features:
Key advantages of BGR:
1. User friendly
2. No manual effort, thanks to automatically generated backgrounds and corresponding modified depth maps (no need to compose depth maps manually)
3. Generation of real background areas using temporal interpolation methods
4. Generation of background for multiple objects simultaneously
5. Ability to use incomplete input depth maps
6. No resolution limitation!
BGR supports two modes:
1. Basic mode: in this simple approach, the tool requires only a source 2D video and its depth map
2. Quality reconstruction mode: this case requires an insulating roto mask for the object that is to be removed
YUVsoft’s BGR tool was tested and approved during a recent conversion of a documentary to IMAX 3D format.
As usual, BGR (as a part of 2D to 3D Suite) is available for use in Adobe After Effects and The Foundry Nuke environments.
