We have the Meduza3D Titan or the ASP sytsem from Heinrich-Hertz Institute and P+S technik. They systems try to solve our main problem, that we want to use small, flexible mirror systems...and the best would be ZoomLenses. Thats the reason why we from tectum try to find a solution with existing tools, which really exist on the market. We tested in december 2013 a pair of KowaZooms. Our main interest was the possibility to use them for 3D-shoots. We compared them even with ZeissDigiZooms.
The big advantage is definitely the weight and the size of the KowaZooms. But the big question for us was, if we can match two lenses for 3D.
In our first test, the astonishing result was, that they match better to each other, then the digizooms.
We remarked that we have some limitations with the KowaZooms:
we should work with a f-stop between 2 and 5.6. Otherwise we will get the problem, that we will see a vignette. And we should not pull the focus nearer than one meter. If you zoom in by 3%, than you have no limitations.
But if you accept this compromises, than you have a small, flexibel, leightweight and low priced solution with a good quality for the next 3D-production.
The listprice of a 3D-matched pair is 150€ the day. Compared with Digizooms - 960€ the day - it seems for us to be a real alternativ.
Now we had 5 of them in our rental and compared them, so that we have a pair 3D-matched lenses in our house.
The next step is: we will design special gearrings, so that we can motorize them...and the lenses will get a special ring, so that the main fixation between lens and camera will not be via the mount, it will be via screws between this ring and a small block on the camera.
The main advantage what is coming up from this ring and this small block, that we can adjust absolut accurate the backfocus.
So we have three more weeks ..... but then it should be ready:
a small mirror rig (P+S micro rig with two filter stages), with small full HD 2/3" CCD cameras (Modula), with zoomlenses from11.5 to 69mm, motorized via Aladin MKII and the Gemini recorder. Listprice for this setup will be under 2150€.
Rental worldwide.
